President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Saturday lead government’s engagement with communities in the Mangaung metropolitan municipality, in the Free State, as part of the second post-State of the Nation Address Presidential Imbizo.

In his 2022 SoNA address Ramaphosa promised to leave no one behind.

The Presidential Imbizo aims to work with all sectors of society and assist in solving problems related to service delivery in line with the District Development Model.

This visit comes after Cabinet placed the Mangaung metropolitan municipality under administration owing to a prolonged period of "significant financial and service delivery failures".

The President will be joined by Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela, a delegation of Ministers, members of the provincial executive council, and the mayor of Mangaung.

Police patrol streets of Diepsloot after spate of killings

Police patrolled the streets of Diepsloot following a spate of killings and protests in the area.

Several people were arrested and taken to Diepsloot police station, however it is unclear at this stage whether they were charged or what they were arrested for.

Tactical Response Teams and Public Order Policing from various stations across the city descended on the area this week after several people were killed, which resulted in widespread protests.

Police Minister Bheki Cele promised residents they would keep the police officers in the area until a more feasible solution to deal with the crime was found.

Among children aged 12 and older, over 1.9-million doses of vaccine have been administered with more than 2.3-million booster shots given so far.

As of Thursday, South Africa recorded 1 481 new Covid-19 infections with 3 new deaths.
