The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape looks forward to the State of the Province Address, which returns to the Conville Community Hall in George, the site of the first “Taking Parliament to the People” initiative in 2004. Hosting SOPA in the heart of the Garden Route once again reflects the importance of a district that continues to set the tone ahead of local government elections.
We look forward to hearing Premier Alan Winde outline how the Western Cape continues to contribute a significant share of national job creation. We expect a clear account of economic growth, investment attraction, and measurable progress on recovery initiatives, including the sector-specific strategies that drive sustainable growth across our province.
Following the recent announcement of the deployment of the South African National Defence Force, which comes just months after the Western Cape Government introduced its Safety Plan 2.0, we anticipate further detail on coordinated law enforcement and inter-agency cooperation to combat crime.
With multiple infrastructure projects underway across the province, we are keen to hear updates on the maintenance of hospitals and clinics, the expansion of road networks and housing developments, and the continued growth of school infrastructure.
The DA also expects progress on food security programmes, the expansion of school nutrition, and social development interventions that prioritise dignity and care in service delivery for our most vulnerable residents.
Communities across the province, particularly in the Garden Route and Central Karoo, continue to face the impact of floods, droughts, and fires. With dam levels under significant pressure, we look forward to updates on the Provincial Water Council and long-term resilience planning. We further expect clarity on the provincial response to the Foot-and-Mouth Disease outbreak and the specific interventions being made to protect agricultural livelihoods and food security.
Gillion Bosman, MPP and DA Chief Whip in the Western Cape Parliament, said: "We expect the State of the Province Address to reflect both honesty about the challenges we face and evidence of measurable delivery. The Western Cape continues to lead on growth, job creation, safety, and infrastructure investment. Our focus remains clear: we must protect what works, strengthen our resilience where needed, and accelerate opportunity for every resident."
Issued by Gillion Bosman, MPP - Chief Whip: DA Western Cape Provincial Parliament
