The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape welcomes the findings of the recent investigation into the conduct of Knysna's municipal leadership. The report, commissioned by Western Cape Local Government Minister Anton Bredell, reveals significant breaches of the code of conduct by key officials, including Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa, Deputy Mayor Alberto Marbi, and Speaker Mncedisi Skosana.

The investigation was initiated following growing concerns over allegations of misconduct and maladministration within the Knysna Municipality. Reports of irregular decision-making, poor governance, and a collapse in service delivery prompted an independent probe led by Advocate Trisha Sarkas and Deirdré Viljoen. Their findings have confirmed that municipal leadership provided false evidence under oath, amounting to fraud and failed in their ethical and legal responsibilities.

In light of these damning findings, the DA Western Cape calls for the immediate resignation of Mayor Tsengwa, Deputy Mayor Marbi, and Speaker Skosana. Their continued presence in office poses a serious risk to the proper functioning and integrity of the council and undermines public trust.

Furthermore, we support the committee's recommendations for financial sanctions against the implicated officials and councillors. It is imperative that accountability measures are enforced to restore faith in local governance.

The ANC/EFF/PA/PBI coalition of corruption in Knysna has led to the complete collapse of services, leaving residents to suffer the consequences of maladministration and mismanagement. This investigation confirms what residents already know: the coalition prioritizes self-interest over service delivery.

Knysna deserves better. Residents need a DA government that can restore service delivery, ensure ethical governance, and build back better for all communities.

The DA remains committed to upholding transparency, integrity, and accountability within all spheres of government. We will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that the necessary corrective actions are implemented promptly.
