The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the delivery of over four million Smart ID Cards in 2025 — the highest number ever achieved.

This milestone reflects the DA’s impact within the Government of National Unity (GNU), where the Department of Home Affairs, under DA Minister Leon Schreiber, has driven digital reform, stabilised critical systems, and accelerated service delivery - reflecting the DA’s mandate to put basic services first and ensure government works for the people it serves.

The expansion of Smart IDs strengthens identity security, improves access to banking, jobs, and social services, and speeds up the replacement of the fraud-prone green barcoded ID book.

This achievement shows what competent governance can deliver. We remain committed to using our role in the GNU to deliver efficient, secure, and modern public services.
