The DA welcomes Free State Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae's condemnation of the illegal trespassing by about 200 individuals in MK Party regalia at the Sterkfontein Nature Reserve.
The DA shares her view that the individuals' actions make them guilty of trespassing, intimidation, and economic sabotage.
Law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert for the current MK Party actions.
However, the DA remains concerned that previous invasions and occupations of municipal property at Harrismith, including the Platberg Nature Reserve and Schoonplaas housing development, by a "fake king" were not met by similar responses by the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality or the local SAPS.
This fake king continues to intimidate residents and make claims to properties, including claiming rent, despite a 2020 court order obtained by the Provincial Department of COGTA prohibiting him from claiming kingship.
The recent MK Party actions took place under the watchful eyes of Jacob Zuma, whose convoy of vehicles was seen driving around the municipality where these illegal activities occurred.
The SAPS must act without fear or favour against all offenders, whether provincial government, municipal, or private property.
The DA will continue to monitor the situation and support actions to prevent further invasions and remedy those already occurring on municipal property.
