While former Central Karoo District mayor, Gayton McKenzie, vacates his office, the DA wants to assure residents of Beaufort West and the greater Central Karoo, that we will not forsake them. We remain committed to the people of the area and we will continue to fight for them.
Many residents of Beaufort West, as well as in the greater Central Karoo, are frustrated by the manner in which the municipality and the district is being run and have become disillusioned by the promises that were made that lured their support.
People were promised that Beaufort West will be the next Dubai, but not long ago, residents did not even have water in the area, and the DA had to arrange for trucks to deliver water to residents. We have also seen a band-aid approach taken to fix sewage infrastructure, and last year, power to local businesses was arbitrarily cut while their accounts were all paid up. How can you promise a Dubai if you can't even get the basics right.
Residents have become acutely aware of the corners that are being cut to deliver inadequate services, resulting in the recent service deliver protests in Beaufort West.
The DA, however, commits to fighting for the people of the Central Karoo. We have seen, for example, the turnaround in Prince Albert since the DA took over. Services are being delivered and taxpayers’ money is appropriately spent.
Where the DA governs, we get things done. Voters in the Central Karoo must unite behind the DA, ensure that they are registered to vote, and help us bring change to their communities.
