The Democratic Alliance (DA) will on Wednesday lay fraud charges against Tshwane Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise at the Brooklyn Police Station.
Charges will be laid by Tshwane mayoral candidate Cilliers Brink and DA Tshwane spokesperson for finance Jacqui Uys.
The charges follow an investigative report which concluded that Modise “unlawfully” benefitted from a multimillion-rand municipal security contract while he was a councillor.
The report indicated that Modise was in breach of conduct by allegedly benefiting from the business of Triotic Protection Services.
City of Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya is on Tuesday unpacking crime statistics in the City.
The party said it welcomed Moya’s efforts to address crime in Tshwane, however, said she should confront criminality in her own administration.
The DA pointed out that Modise’s presence at the crime strategy briefing raised serious questions.
“If the City is serious about fighting crime, it should first demonstrate zero tolerance for wrongdoing,” the party said.
