The Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus in KwaDukuza welcome the proclamation notice by President Cyril Ramaphosa, initiating a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) investigation into matters at KwaDukuza Municipality emanating from 2018 (view notice here).

The investigation relates to the irregular intervention of municipal officials in multiple tenders, among those, the controversial road rehabilitation panels. We are calling on all those that are persons of interest to fully cooperate with the investigative process. In addition to this, the Municipal Manager, Nhlanhla Mdakane, must immediately present a report to full council, to appraise the new term of council on this investigation.

To build a capable and ethical state, those that are still employed within KwaDukuza and in any other organ of state must be held fully accountable. The days of the supply chain department being used as a playground for politically connected individuals must come to an end.
