Following relentless pressure from the DA, the ANC Mayor of Beaufort West has resigned in a special Council meeting today.

During the same Council meeting, the DA’s Elvico Links was elected as the new Speaker in the Municipality.

With the election of the new Speaker, the DA caucus now shifts its focus to ensuring that Beaufort West gets the stable leadership it deserves.

Despite the mayor’s resignation, the DA will still move for a motion of no-confidence to ensure his ousting before the effective resignation date.

Residents have been unfairly subjected to political manoeuvring and they deserve uninterrupted good governance – and now they will.

The DA’s Marius Andrews was also sworn-in as a PR Councillor during today's proceedings. We wish Elvico and Marius well in their new roles.

Elvico served as DA Beaufort West Constituency Chairperson and is currently the Ward 6 Ward Councillor.

At the next Council meeting, which is scheduled for next week, the DA will put forward our candidate to be elected as the new Beaufort West Mayor.
