The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the Legislature’s decision to reject the motion of no confidence against the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal. The decision to defeat this reckless motion reaffirms DA's commitment to governance and economic growth in KZN.

This outcome represents a clear victory for stability, cooperation, and responsible governance. It affirms that most representatives in the Legislature recognize that KwaZulu-Natal cannot afford political chaos, disruption, or opportunistic power plays.

The failure of this motion allows the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) to continue its work of restoring credibility to provincial government, improving service delivery, and focusing on the real challenges facing residents, unemployment, crime, infrastructure decay, and economic recovery.

The DA remains firmly committed to its role within the GPU.

We will continue to hold our partners to account while working constructively to ensure clean governance, transparency, and measurable progress for the people of KwaZulu-Natal.

Today’s outcome also sends a strong message that the Legislature will not be used as a platform for destabilization or political theatrics at the expense of the province’s future.

The DA calls on all parties to respect the will of the Legislature, put this matter behind us, and refocus on the urgent work of governing in the best interests of all who live in KwaZulu-Natal.
