The Compensation Fund (CF), an entity of the Department of Employment and Labour in partnership with the North West Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) will host a two-day seminar targeting municipalities in the province.

This seminar is part of a series of engagements scheduled by CF, that would see different stakeholders at both provincial and local government level and organised labour respectively taken through the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA) in an effort to increase compliance by both spheres of government.

The Compensation Fund exists to administer the COID Act. Its main objective is to provide compensation for disability, illness and death resulting from occupational injuries and diseases.

In terms of the COID Act, employers must register with the Compensation Fund and pay an annual assessment fee based on their workers’ earnings and the risks associated with the type of work being done however there are some who are exempted from paying this assessment fee.
