The City of Tshwane joined the global community celebrating World Social Work Day yesterday. This year's theme, "Co-building a New Eco-Social World: Leaving No One Behind", highlights the critical role that social work plays in fostering inclusive and sustainable communities, focusing on both social and environmental justice.

World Social Work Day serves as a platform to recognize the invaluable contributions of social workers in addressing the complex challenges faced by individuals, families, and communities. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the vital role social workers play in the development of social policies, their advocacy for social justice, and their commitment to improving lives through compassionate services and support.

The City of Tshwane in partnership with the University of South Africa is proud to commemorate this day with a special event on 28 March 2025, at the Groenkloof Nature Reserve. Social workers from various sectors within the City will be treated to a day of relaxation and well-being as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication and hard work. The event will include a range of rejuvenating activities such as hiking, yoga, massages, and other fun-filled recreational experiences designed to promote wellness and enjoyment.

"We are excited to acknowledge the remarkable work that our social workers do in shaping and improving the lives of people in our communities," said Councillor Palesa Modise, Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Community and Social Development services Department.

"The well-being of our social workers is equally important, and this event is an opportunity for us to give back to them and show our gratitude for their unwavering commitment."

As part of the City of Tshwane’s ongoing support for the social work profession, the commemorative event will not only celebrate social work but also reinforce the importance of working together to build a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
