Cape Town Air Access says Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) international terminal two-way passenger traffic grew by 9% year-on-year in July, with more than 219 500 two-way passengers moving through the facility.

The domestic terminal processed more than 607 000 two-way passengers in July – an 8% year-on-year increase compared with the same period in 2024.

George Airport handled more than 74 000 two-way passengers, equating to a year-on-year growth rate of 20%, compared with the same period in 2024.

This growth can be attributed to a combination of added airline capacity and the bulk of the school holidays falling in July, whereas most of the previous year’s holiday fell in June.

Air-cargo trade volumes for the Western Cape reached just more than 6 750 metric tonnes in June, which represents a year-on-year growth of 36% compared with the same period last year.

Year-to-date air cargo trade volume for 2025 stands at almost 49 000 metric tons, with growth of 56%.

The export/import split for June came to 51:49, with exports growing at 40% and imports at 32% year-on-year.

Temperature and climate-controlled goods dominated air-trade exports, representing 62% of the total.

Food and beverages and clothing and accessories each represented 16% of air trade imports for June.

In terms of flights to and from Cape Town, FlySafair has announced that it will expand its service with a new route between Hoedspruit and Cape Town, set to launch on October 2, with three flights a week.

In addition, the carrier will increase its Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport – Cape Town service from three flights a week to one flight a day from October 1.

South African Airways has also announced that it will operate a new seasonal service between Mauritius and Cape Town, starting December 9, with three flights per week.

Proflight Zambia will increase frequencies on its Lusaka to Cape Town route – via Livingstone – from two to three flights a week, starting October 18.

Air France has noted that it will extend its seasonal flight schedule between Paris and Cape Town until May 4.
