Burundi’s National Assembly has elected Nestor Ntahontuye as the new prime minister, just eight months after he was named finance minister.
Ntahontuye replaces Gervais Ndirakobuca, who’s now been elected Senate president.
In December President Evariste Ndayishimiye named the member of parliament as finance minister amid financial difficulties in the small east African economy struggling with inflation as high as 45%, fuelled by a lack of foreign exchange that’s caused gasoline shortages.
