The ability of preeminent African law firm, Bowmans, to facilitate investment in East Africa has been highlighted once again. In the DealMakers Africa awards and league tables for 2024 released earlier today (27 March 2025), the firm’s role in some of the most significant transactions across East Africa was acknowledged.

Bowmans topped the legal advisor league table by deal flow in the East Africa M&A category. Having been identified for advising on four of the six matters shortlisted in East Africa, the firm was also recognised for advising on the deal named East Africa Private Equity Deal of the Year.

In the transaction named Private Equity Deal of the Year, Bowmans advised on Ascent Capital’s acquisition of a minority stake in Dune Packaging. Dune Packaging is a Kenyan-based global paper packaging manufacturer with a strong track record of delivering high-quality packaging solutions. According to DealMakers Africa, ‘This investment is expected to accelerate Dune Packaging’s growth trajectory and contribute to the development of the packaging industry in East Africa.’

These results follow the recognition of Bowmans’ leadership in M&A and private equity in South Africa at the DealMakers awards ceremony held in Johannesburg last month. The firm placed first by deal value and first by deal flow in the M&A Unlisted Deals category, second by transaction value and second by transaction flow in the General Corporate Finance category, and was recognised for advising on the Deal of the Year.
