Pre-eminent African law firm Bowmans has collected the Legal Advisor of the Year (Deals) trophy at the PE Africa Awards, held in London on Tuesday this week (19 November 2024). The PE Africa Awards are considered to be 'the ultimate accolade of success in the African private equity industry’.

Bowmans’ Private Equity team has been on a winning streak of late. Last week, the team won the Private Equity Award at the Annual Africa Global Funds (AGF) Africa Service Providers Awards held in Cape Town.

In September, Bowmans took home the African Legal Awards Private Equity Team of the Year Award for advising Mauritian and French investors on the acquisition of a majority stake in one of the largest commercial and industrial solar operators in the region. The Mauritian client described this as a significant opportunity to deepen its presence in the African market.

In February, the team was recognised at the DealMakers Awards for having advised on the transaction named Private Equity Deal of the Year – the exit by the Carlyle Group of Tessara to AgroFresh.

The PE Africa Legal Advisor of the Year trophy was collected by James Westgate, partner at Bowmans in Johannesburg.

He says, 'I was proud to collect this award on behalf of the Private Equity team at Bowmans. Working on numerous complex transactions over the past few years has been immensely rewarding in terms of being able to assist our clients to unlock sustainable opportunities in Africa, and for the chance it has provided to witness the positive impact of these transactions across the continent.’
