Professor Bonang Mohale has officially assumed the role as the new chancellor of the University of the Free State (UFS).

The announcement was made at a special meeting of the UFS council on March 20.

Mohale currently serves on the boards of Swiss Re Africa Limited, Rand Merchant Bank Limited, the Automobile Association of South Africa, and SBV.

He is a former Business Leadership South Africa CEO, a forum which brings together the leadership of South Africa’s most successful and influential big business and multinational investors to exchange ideas, facilitate effective dialogue with government and other stakeholders, and advocate for pro-business, economically sustainable policies, and programmes.

Mohale’s appointment follows an extensive selection process by the council to succeed Dr Khotso Mokhele, whose term as Chancellor came to an end on June 3.

Mokhele served as Chancellor for two terms.
