Today, the ANC-led coalition in Tshwane called a Special Council meeting to consider accusations that the party has made against the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Tshwane, Gareth Mnisi.

As it is, no such report was tabled and the special council meeting was adjourned without conducting any business.

The DA would like to see the report that was meant to be tabled, and if it warrants an investigation, such an investigation must follow.

The question we now have is: What is the ANC hiding?

First, the ANC does not seem to be animated at all by the fact that its own MMC for Finance has an unlawful, undisclosed contract with the City. Second, there are at least two instances where the same official, who the ANC now wants to go after, seems to have cancelled tenders that would have benefited the self-same Modise.

It is incredibly suspicious to call a meeting of Council in which the ANC wanted to go after senior officials, and then dissolve that very same meeting having not tabled the report they wanted to table, nor having provided Council with any evidence of wrongdoing on the CFOs part.

We are willing to say that the ANC is sour, because someone is stopping them from emptying the City’s coffers.

We will not leave this matter here. The DA is ready to pursue public representatives trying to raid the City of Tshwane’s coffers, and we certainly will.
