As part of its international campaign against the “Kill the Boer” chant, the civil rights organisation AfriForum will appeal to governments to impose personal sanctions against Julius Malema and others who are guilty of gross human rights violations through their public calls for violence against Afrikaners and farmers. AfriForum will also request governments to express their concern through diplomatic channels about the South African government and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s failure to unconditionally condemn calls for violence against Afrikaners and farmers.
According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, the call for international punitive measures against Malema is necessary, as the Constitutional Court’s legalisation of the “Kill the Boer” chant means that Malema cannot be called to account in South Africa for his hate speech against Afrikaners and farmers.
Kriel points out that AfriForum’s legal team is busy preparing a dossier against Malema and his colleagues, which will show how they violate human rights and express their support for terrorist organisations. It will also highlight the serious allegations of corruption against them. “The dossier will be presented to governments worldwide to emphasise the need for personal sanctions,” Kriel adds.
“No one should be untouchable if they violate human rights by inciting violence, as is the case with Malema. If justice is not served locally, AfriForum will continue to use alternative remedies abroad,” concludes Kriel.
