AfriForum’s 177 neighbourhood and farm watches continued this past weekend to strengthen their collaborative efforts with law enforcement agencies at ground level. AfriForum structures in the East Rand joined forces with the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Human Rights Day during Operation Mashakane. A total of 117 members, including representatives from private security companies, participated in this large-scale mass patrol to enhance safety and visibility in the area.

AfriForum’s Chief Spokesperson for Community Safety, Jacques Broodryk, says this kind of ongoing cooperation has led to numerous successful crime-fighting operations across South Africa. It has once again emphasised the importance of community involvement in crime prevention.

“The fight against crime cannot be won in isolation. It is only through the collaboration between community members, private security companies, and law enforcement agencies that we can create safer neighbourhoods. It is through this proactive action that we can reclaim our communities from criminal elements.”

In addition to the operations in the East Rand, AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Klerksdorp also conducted mass patrols with SAPS this past weekend to curb crime in their areas. These joint efforts aim to reduce crime and ensure the safety of local residents.

Furthermore, Klerksdorp’s neighbourhoods are set to conduct another large-scale patrol this coming Saturday. The initiative will be a collective effort involving SAPS, the Traffic Department, private security companies, and AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch members.

AfriForum calls on community members to participate in these crime prevention efforts. By standing together, peace can be restored in communities.
