ActionSA has opened a criminal case [CAS NO: 232/11/2025] following a shooting incident earlier today involving our activists in Ekurhuleni, where eight activists were shot at while campaigning at the Barcelona Primary School VD in Ward 109.

Thankfully, despite multiple shots being fired, none of our activists were injured. They are receiving the necessary support from the party and our engagements with the police are focused on ensuring the swift tracking down of the thugs who sought to harm our members.

ActionSA is particularly concerned that this incident occurred less than 24 hours after successful anti-drug raids conducted in the very same area by our Mayoral Candidate, Cllr Xolani Khumalo, which targeted known drug dealers and criminals operating in the community.

As we have informed the police, based on the testimony of our activists who were present when the shots were fired from the assailants’ vehicle, this was more than likely an act of intimidation or retaliation by the same criminals impacted by yesterday’s raids.

ActionSA remains undeterred because when Xolani Khumalo declared criminality enemy number one in ActionSA’s efforts to fix Ekurhuleni, we were not naïve to the entrenched lawlessness that has captured the city.

As we continue our campaign in Ward 109 ahead of the December by-election, our fight against those who terrorise communities and to bring safety, accountability and dignity back to residents abandoned for far too long is stronger than ever.
