ActionSA rejects the politically motivated Motions of No Confidence scheduled for debate in Council on 28 August 2025 against our three Committee Chairpersons: Cllr. Munyai of EISD, Cllr. Edward of Finance, and Cllr. Wissler of Public Safety. These motions are not born out of principle or evidence of failure, but out of pure political manoeuvring designed to derail accountability and ethical leadership in the City.

Since assuming their roles, our chairpersons have demonstrated ethical, transparent and hands-on leadership. Under Cllr. Munyai communities saw tangible improvements such as the restoration of water in Westbury, exemption of hundreds of families from load reduction in Ward 71, and urgent oversight on reservoirs and depots to stabilise supply.

Cllr. Edward, through the Finance Committee, established a billing desk that resolved over 2,000 resident queries, ensured financial reporting is both timely and credible, reviewed critical policies, and introduced live streaming of committee sittings to make Council more transparent and accessible. Cllr. Wissler has been unwavering in her fight for safer communities, leading decisive interventions against illegal businesses, unregulated scrap yards, and refurbishing JMPD satellite offices to improve service delivery and morale among officers.

This record of delivery stands in stark contrast to the appointment of individuals such as Masuku and Zungu, whose reputations are mired in political baggage and whose elevation reflects cadre deployment at its worst. These motions are not about service to residents—they are about replacing integrity with patronage, accountability with expediency.

The simultaneous witch hunt against the Group Forensic and Investigation Services (GFIS) further reveals the underlying agenda. The consistent pattern of targeting those who expose corruption and serve with integrity points to nothing less than a coordinated attempt to punish ethical leaders, hide the true state of affairs in Johannesburg, and shield corrupt networks from accountability.

ActionSA will not be silenced. We will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the residents of Johannesburg in defence of ethical governance and transparent leadership. On 28 August, councillors will face a simple choice: stand with those who deliver for the people or stand with those who conspire to protect corruption. History will remember who defended Johannesburg’s future and who sold it out.
