The Public Servants Association (PSA) is outraged by the acting Minister of Police’s illogical view that the suspended Minister was correct to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), despite evidence and revelations clearly proving otherwise.
The acting Minister’s view that General Mkhwanazi’s press briefing was inappropriate reflects a clear lack of understanding of the complexity and gravity of the situation. General Mkhwanazi acted in the interest of the Country, something self-serving and compromised persons would not understand. The PSA reminds the acting Minister that leadership is not about views or academic posturing, but involves action, accountability, and the courage to correct institutional failures. It remains the PSA’s view that the General acted properly, given the dire situation in the Country.
The acting Minister seems to be removed from reality, or rather has an ulterior motive and a different agenda, as his viewpoints defy logic. Testimonies presented before the Parliamentary ad-hoc Committee and the Madlanga Commission have undoubtedly demonstrated that the suspended Minister acted unilaterally and in contravention of established protocols when he ordered the disbandment of the PKTT. A person of the acting Minister’s stature should know that although task teams are not immortal, disbanding these without proper review and receiving closure reports would not make sense. Any attempt to defend the illogical and dangerous move by the suspended Minister is unwarranted, despicable, and tantamount to sabotage.
The PSA will not stand by whilst political expediency trumps justice and the rule of law. The PSA calls on Parliament and the Presidency to ensure that the Ministry of Police is led with integrity, urgency, and an unwavering commitment to the safety of South Africans.
The PSA is extremely disappointed with the acting Minister as he fails to grasp the crisis faced by the Country. His posture on the suspended Minister’s reckless overreach is deeply concerning. The PSA stands in solidarity with law enforcement professionals who continue to serve with integrity under challenging circumstances and will protect them against misguided persons.
