- Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies0.38 MB
The commemoration of World Mental Health Day (WMHD) on 10th October is aimed at creating public awareness to make mental health a global priority. The theme for World Mental Health Day 2025 is ‘Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies’. This focus highlights the critical need to ensure access to mental health support in disaster and emergency situations.
The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasises that “every year, millions of people are affected by emergencies such as armed conflicts and natural disasters. These crises disrupt families, livelihoods and essential services, and significantly impact mental health. Nearly all those affected will experience psychological distress. A minority will go on to develop mental health conditions such as depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.”
